We are sad to report that David Friend died on May 23, 2008, following a bout with cancer. David was our friend and colleague and he will be greatly missed. David Friend was an excellent teacher. An article on David was written after he won the 2004-2005 UM Distinguished Teaching Award. A memorial fund has been established in David Friend's honor at the UM Foundation. The proceeds of this fund will go towards establishing an award for excellence in teaching in the sciences.
